“A trusted colleague recommended John to me because I needed professional photos for my website. When I checked out his work, I realized that he’d photographed four of my colleagues — and the photos he took captured them perfectly.
I really loved the way John conducted our pre-shoot strategy session. I’d done a photo shoot in Europe a few months prior and that photographer, although quite talented, was on the skimpy side with this step which resulted in missing several necessary shots. An expensive lesson.
John, on the other hand, was very thorough in understanding exactly what I needed, the various scenarios we wanted, what I might wear — and even down to the range of expressions we’d want to go for.
I love life and I love people so I smile and laugh 80% of the time. (I have the laugh lines to prove it.) So that’s the easy part. But getting me to express anything other than a smile is a chore. John did a great job of giving me prompts, asking me questions or directing me to imagine myself in certain situations so that a broader range of expressions was captured — without coming across as disingenuous.
We shot in my tiny NYC apartment, on my patio and the front stoop of my brownstone. John’s ingenuity working in a tight space was brilliant. The images he delivered hit the nail on the head. I was thrilled when I saw the home page layout that my designer used with his images. It looks and feels more like your favorite magazine than a website. She could not have done that without the top notch shots that John captured.
John is a true professional, without having a stick up his… you know… He’s friendly, thoughtful, thorough, creative — and just damn good. I look forward to hiring him again when I’m ready for my next batch of photos!”
