Do the same thing when you hire a portrait photographer, too!

 
  • “My nephew has a great camera and shoots pictures for fun, so he took my headshot.”

  • “I had my assistant grab my IPhone and take a picture of me for my LinkedIn profile.”

  • “All you need is a good camera and someone to hit the button and that’ll get the job. done”

If I hear another conversation that starts off similar to one of the above statements with regard to investing in branded lifestyle portraits for your business, I’m going to lose my mind.

Lose my mind, have a good cry, scream, you know, something along those lines.

Why the frustration…says no one but my inner monologue?

The frustration lies in the fact that people invest often in specialized services that relate to their homes, businesses, health, families, etc.

But, when the topic of photography comes up, eh, fuck it, let’s just find someone with a fancy camera, an empty SD card, and a pulse and that will be good enough.

Sigh.

Although technology plays a huge role in the quality of the images, the photographer behind the camera is incredibly more important to the equation.

And not just any photographer - a photographer who specializes in lifestyle portraits.

But, doesn’t a wedding or fashion photographer count since they photograph people?

No,

Although they are professionals, know how to capture special moments through their cameras and know how to produce high-level imagery, they have completely different skill sets than someone who focuses solely on creating lifestyle portraits that will be leveraged in a completely different way than how their typical deliverables are leveraged.

Think of it this way:

When you have a pain in your back, do you make an appointment for a podiatrist? What about when you have a cold, do you set an appointment for an optometrist?

No, you find a doctor that specializes in treating that particular pain.

The same mindset applies to your photography pain points.

A branded lifestyle portrait specialist not only understands how to capture you in a confident and powerful way, but, also understands the end use of these images.

Not only do they understand the end use, but, they also have a proven process for leading you down the path to effectively create these types of portraits and maximize the value of your investment in the session.

Of course anyone with a camera can capture an image of you and it can serve as “good enough” to get the job done.

But, if you’re in the business of transforming people’s lives, then is “good enough” the standard by which you want to live?
