“The story and visual always need to work in concert with each other.”

It’s not just about pretty photos, after all :)

One of the most important conversations I have with clients is after the session when we’re reviewing and selecting photos.

The goal of that conversation revolves around them being able to see beyond the beauty of the image.

Yes, the photo needs to be flattering, otherwise they’d never use it. But, a good-looking image is the pre-requisite, not the overall goal.

Before we sign off on a shot that ends up in their image content portfolio, I ask them one question:

“Can you write a story with this image in mind that will resonate with your audience?”

I ask them because if they’re not able to identify the words to work with this visual, there’s no point in keeping it.

This topic was brought up during my conversation with David Horsager on The Trusted Leader Show.

We also talked about:

  • How photos can help build trust

  • Appealing to potential clients based on who you are AND how you help solve problems

  • How photos help build relationships with those you serve

  • How learning and growth never ends
