My secret weapon

Have you ever considered that the simplest tool could be the key to unlocking your best work?

In my case, it’s not a new light, lens or location.

It’s my trusty kneepad.

This year marks 25 years of capturing professional photography and video, and let me tell you—my knees have taken a beating, especially the right one.

Between twisting, bending, crouching, and kneeling for countless sessions, I’d be in a world of hurt without this unsung hero. It’s still a pain, but it’s the good kind since it helps me to deliver magic to those I serve.

The kneepad keeps me in the action on any surface—carpet, grass, limestone, or anything in between. I’m free to roll around if I need the ideal shot, angle, or perspective.

And the bonus is that it makes me look cool wearing it - I feel like I’m going to work the moment I strap it on. And it doesn’t go unnoticed by others.

I’ve had participants say to me, “I could tell you were serious about your work the minute I saw that kneepad!” I know, right :)

Whether I’m photographing a book boudoir session session in my apartment or covering a high-energy keynote, this piece of gear isn’t just for show.

It’s a necessity that ensures I’ll capture every angle, every expression, and every moment without having to hold back because of physical discomfort of placing my body in precarious positions.

That’s the win.

Turning to you—what’s the one piece of gear or must-have item that you can’t imagine working without?
