Capturing Momentum—Kim Becking’s Keynote photographed with Intention
Your keynote can create a life-changing moment in the room.
When your photos are nearly a decade old, it’s not just about being outdated—it’s about sending the wrong message to those you serve.
But if there’s no proof it happened… it might as well not exist.
The best speakers know that the real magic happens in between the slides: in the laughter, the high-fives, the locked-in moments of transformation. And the fastest way to prove that kind of impact?
Photos that show these magic moments.
That’s why resilience and adaptability expert Kim Becking, an in-demand keynote speaker and thought leader, brought me in to document her live event from start to finish.
She wasn’t just looking for “a few good stage shots.”
She wanted the full arc—from prep to applause—with visuals that captured the emotion, energy, and essence of her work in real time.
The Strategy: Capture the Magic
Before the event, Kim and I had a deep-dive strategy call to walk through the full experience of her talk.
We didn’t just talk logistics—we talked story. She shared how her talk unfolds from the moment she steps on stage, and how she weaves in high-energy audience interaction and impactful props throughout.
We built a game plan to ensure her full presence was captured:
The quiet prep beforehand
Engaging with conference organizers and the AV team
The big stage moments in motion
The energy shift and audience connection after the final applause
“We were able to talk through what specific shots were needed and outline highlights of my keynote where John’s visual eye would create amazing action shots.”
The goal was to create a live-action case study of what it feels like to be in the room with Kim as she delivers her message of transformation.
The Challenge: Big Room, Sparse Audience, and Limited Shooting Access
While our plan was locked in and ready to go, you are always at the mercy of what the room and the people that are in it, offer the camera.
As a result, visually speaking, this event wasn’t easy to capture in a way that positions Kim as the expert she is.
The room was massive, but the audience didn’t fill it.
If captured the wrong way, it could’ve exposed rows of empty seats and made Kim look bad.
She was being filmed on IMAG screens, which meant I couldn’t appear on camera—forcing me to avoid entire zones of the room.
Regardless, I still needed to create visual variety and momentum from limited angles.
But because we planned ahead, I knew exactly where to be, where I could move to and from, and what to focus on during specific sections of her keynote.
The Solution: Strategic Coverage, Seamless Presence, and Flawless Execution
From the second Kim opened her suitcase of props to the final selfie with a participant, I was there—without ever being seen.
“John was there from pre-keynote prep through after the keynote—getting amazing ‘in the moment’ magical shots every step of the way… not just on stage, but the interaction with clients, the hugs and the high fives.”
And because we’d mapped her talk in advance, I knew exactly when to catch:
The big gestures
The laughter and reactions
The visual cues that aligned with her message of momentum and resilience
“All in a ninja-like, unassuming way.”
Kim didn’t have to think about where I was or worry about how she would look.
She just had to show up and deliver. I handled the rest.
The Results: Momentum Captured, Credibility Cemented
What Kim walked away with wasn’t just a gallery of event images. It was a full visual storytelling library of magic moments to be leveraged across the various touch points of her online presence:
Updated speaker reel assets
Website visuals that show her impact in motion
Scroll-stopping social media content
Blog and newsletter images that reinforce her message
“I’m using the hundreds of photos he took in a variety of ways… website, social media, blog, and so much more.”
And because the images reflected every aspect of her message, from the personal to the powerful, they became more than marketing tools—they became credibility anchors.
“He was able to capture me and my work and tell the story of building momentum to be more adaptable and resilient—all from behind his lens.”
