Hi! I'm John. In my blog, I share insights that help Speakers and Expert-based Business Owners create an emotional connection with their audiences through persuasive visual storytelling.

Skip the follow up email and try this

Getting tired of sending follow up emails with no response?

Ditch the 10th email and try this tactic to get their attention.

Like every other expert-based business owner looking to move conversations with prospects along the path to booking, I spend an ungodly amount of time firing off email after email.

Way too much time, in fact.

And, the other day while going through my list of folks with whom to follow up, I came across a colleague that I’ve sent 8 emails to over the past 6 months.

And not one of them generated a response.

Rather than write a 9th one, I decided to do something differently as a way to get on his radar.

So, I went on social and went hunting for some of his new content.

First, I checked on Instagram.

No posts within the last 90 days.

That told me that he really doesn’t check this place out much, so I bounced out of the platform.

Next, LinkedIn.

Ugh, I couldn’t even find him there, so this was a no-go.

My next stop was Facebook. Similar to IG, no new content for over 3 months. But, just as I was about to give up and go the ol’ email route…

…I noticed that there was a blue circle around his profile picture, which meant that he posted to his story within the last 24 hours.

Okay, we got somethin’ to work with!

I clicked on the picture, saw the post, and immediately LEFT A COMMENT (more on that later).

My hope was that this quick engagement would capture his attention at some point during his day.

Well, my question was answered within 5 minutes.

He immediately DM’ed me and wrote, “I owe you an email, a phone call, and an apology. You’re in my plans this year.”

And BINGO was his name-o!

Now, I’ve employed this tactic on many occasions. And, it has an extremely high effectiveness rate in garnering responses.

The key is that you COMMENT or SHARE their post.

A simple LIKE is not enough.

While each generates an FB notification for the poster, the likes simply don’t stand out as well as commenting and sharing.

And, a LIKE is also the easy way out - you gotta work a lil’ harder for attention!

But, if you were already committed to dive bombing their inbox with yet another follow up email, offering an insightful comment and/or share of something they took time to create is a faster route to gaining their attention.

You inspire a response from them to rekindle the relationship, and they get engagement points on social media to help them battle for attention within the algorithm.

It’s a win-win all around.

The next time you’re ready to hit send on yet another follow up email with dwindling hopes that it will get read, employ this tactic and see if it opens up the conversation with them again.
