Hi! I'm John. In my blog, I share insights that help Speakers and Expert-based Business Owners create an emotional connection with their audiences through persuasive visual storytelling.

Savor your victories, will ya?

How do you savor your wins in your business and life?

It’s a key ingredient to building positive momentum.

During a conversation with a colleague the other day, I brought up a series of wins that I had recently experienced in my business.

Before I could finish the list, she cut me off and said, “make sure that you take time out to savor those wins. It’s important to acknowledge your success.”

She’s 100% right.

And it’s 100% something I do after every goal that I achieve.

Whether it’s something as small as completing a to do list for the day or week or as big as delivering awesome branded lifestyle portraits to a client, I savor each and every victory as if they were individually wrapped gifts just for me.

What can I say, I like to let a lil’ sunshine in from time to time, :)

I have a couple ways I savor my victories.

First, I play a series of songs on my phone that has emotional significance to me to set the mood. It’s a combination of music that I’ve listened to since I was a kid and tracks that I’ve grown to love over the years.

In either case, each song lifts my spirits, gets me present, and pushes out any other distracting thoughts.

Then, I relive each moment that led up to that win.

I appreciate each step of the way individually,  especially where a misstep led to a course correction that ultimately resulted in achieving the goal that I set out to accomplish.

Next in line for the savoring process is that I run through a list of all of the positive results that this achievement has created. I then take time to share a moment of gratitude for each.

I then cap off the savoring process by visualizing the next steps.

What’s on the horizon? Where does this victory leave me and how can I get to where I want to go?

Seems like a lot of patting on the back going on, right?

It is - and it’s okay, :)

When you work for yourself, building positive momentum is an absolutely critical piece to the puzzle. It keeps you on purpose and is the antidote to getting stuck in neutral.

It’s easy to write off a small win.

Maybe you had a great phone call or wrote a blog. In the past, I’d simply write those off as mundane activities. But now, I see them as a way to achieve a bunch of positive emotional capital.

That positive emotional capital is in your reserves and leveraged when something takes a left turn in your life and business.

With all of this positivity stored up, the emotional blow of the loss or failure is minimized.

Savoring your wins primes your mind to continue the positive charge and builds momentum towards achieving the next round of goals. Internalizing these achievements deeply has made a huge difference in my overall outlook on my business and life, in general.

I invite you to do the same.
