Hi! I'm John. In my blog, I share insights that help Speakers and Expert-based Business Owners create an emotional connection with their audiences through persuasive visual storytelling.

Headshots on a screen?

While in person, team member headshots is the conventional option...

...virtual headshots might be the better way to go for you.

In this day and age, working remotely has become a much more popular avenue for expert businesses of all shapes and sizes.

Teams communicate from states, countries and continents away.

As a result, the need for being in the same office has become less important with the ability to hold regularly scheduled meetings on Zoom or one of the other virtual conferencing platforms.

With this new reality in mind, how does this affect the way teams present themselves to those they serve? Specifically, how does each team member introduce themselves digitally through their headshot?

In the past, companies would simply hire photographers to come into the office and, one by one, snap the photos of each member in the room.

But, now that there is no “office,” or even a need to present people in person at all, how do they solve this challenge?

Well, you capture your team in the way that they communicate with co-workers and those they serve - right on the screen!

Recently, I was contacted by a non-profit organization and they wanted to re-do their About The Team page on their website.

Members of their board are spread out over two continents and rarely ever get together in person.

Their marketing manager wanted to know if my virtual services would be a fit to apply to team member headshots. I assured them that this was not only something I’ve done in the past, but based on the fact that their organization mostly works virtually, this option makes more sense than photos taken of everyone in person.

They show up to those they serve virtually, so show them what that looks like through these virtual headshots.

Once we settled on the shooting dates and I gave the a list of instructions in order to prepare everyone - camera settings, lighting suggestions and outfit recommendations - we were ready to make some virtual magic:

Yup, they look and feel different than an in person headshot, that’s for sure.

And that’s a good thing.

While this option isn’t a fit for every company, team and expert business owner, it does, however, solve a lot of problems for organizations spread out across the world like this one.

If you are the head of a team that spans cities and countries and are looking to create or update an About The Team page on your site, my suggestion is to think seriously about the virtual headshot option as the way to welcome potential clients, partners and donors into your world.

If it’s the way you work with those you serve, then keep this visual consistency in the marketing materials in which you leverage to grab their attention from the beginning.

If you’re interested in learning more about virtual headshots and if this service is an ideal fit for your team, set up a time to chat with me and we can talk about it.
