John DeMato Blog

Hi! I'm John. In my blog, I share insights that help Speakers and Expert-based Business Owners create an emotional connection with their audiences through persuasive visual storytelling.

"The way you shoot one thing is the way you shoot everything."

“The way you shoot one thing is the way you shoot everything.”

I’ve said this phrase, I dunno, hundreds of times in conversation and training sessions with portrait and live event photographers throughout the years.

Because it’s true.

It doesn’t matter if you’re photographing a portrait session, keynote, training, birthday party, dog portraits, networking event, engagement party or fill in the blank.

The goal is always to capture moments that matter with as much visual variety as possible in order to overdeliver to those you serve.

Recently, I took a break from working with experts who speak, train, write books, coach and consult in order to photograph an expert of a different type.

A cosmetic dermatology office.

A nice lil’ change of pace - why not, right?

During the strategy call with their marketing specialist, we talked about the goals for the session and what needed to be included in their image portfolio.

In addition to candid, fly-on-the-wall portraits of various procedures the two resident doctors perform on a daily basis, we also needed to capture a variety of photos that illustrated the aesthetic and decor of the space, which was beautiful, yet homie, at the same time.

While face masks, lasers, needles and electronic stim paddles are not the normal subject matter to photograph, I, nonetheless, captured a wide variety of images in the same way I do for professional speakers doing their thing.

The content was vastly different, but the approach and expectation level to delivering magic was exactly the same.

That’s the cool part about capturing branded lifestyle portraits; it can be applied to any business owner looking to capture a wealth of visual assets in order to help bolster their marketing and promotional efforts.

After all, the way I shoot one thing is the way I shoot everything :)
