Hi! I'm John. In my blog, I share insights that help Speakers and Expert-based Business Owners create an emotional connection with their audiences through persuasive visual storytelling.

Kill 2 birds with 1 camera, :)

Need both branded lifestyle portraits and virtual photos to position yourself as the expert you are?

No problem - we’ll kill 2 birds with one camera, :)

Over the past couple months, most of the demand from my clients has revolved around the need to upgrade the virtual photos that they leverage to promote themselves and their businesses.

But, a couple, in-person sessions have also been sprinkled throughout this time. We played it safe with masks and such, in case you were wondering.

Now, these in-person sessions have involved speakers and trainers who also have robust virtual elements to their businesses.

Hmmm, in-person portraits for a client who also needs virtual photos...what if we spent the time together to capture both sets of images?

And that’s exactly what we’ve done.

Granted, the first time I pitched this idea to one of my portrait clients, I felt weird about it.

Why?

Because it represented the first time I offered to shoot virtual photos outside of my apartment - I felt like I was cheating on it with some floozy, co-working space!

Half kidding here, folks! Lol

Regardless of my personal feelings on the matter, strategy-wise this made all the sense in the world, especially when I have the opportunity to actually help stage the photo in the space where the speaker is set up.

During a recent branded lifestyle portrait session at a WeWork with my client, Evelyn, a body language expert, we made time in the shooting schedule to capture some virtual photos.

She is launching a new online program and was in need of an upgrade in her virtual photos to help illustrate to her audience what working with her looks like on a screen.

Challenge accepted!

Once we identified an interesting meeting room in the space, I did some interior decorating by moving props and furniture in and out of the shot. I also turned a chair to face the door to take advantage of the natural light blasting into the room.

Then, Evelyn set up Zoom on her phone and it was then my turn to fire up my laptop, get some Wifi, click on the Zoom link she sent me, and find some cool spots to shoot the laptop.

Since it’s a WeWork, cool spots are easy to come by, :)

Every time I shoot a Zoom virtual session outside my apartment, I do feel a little out of sorts, but the opportunity to create maximum value of the time spent with my clients is worth it.

Rather than block out another day in her schedule, Evelyn now has a full range of lifestyle portraits, headshots, virtual photos and other promotional images at her fingertips, all in one session.

It’s a magical solution, :)

Turning to you…

How’s your image content portfolio looking these days? Could it use a refresh of branded lifestyle portraits? How about a splash of virtual photography?

How bout we kill two birds with one camera and one session, :)
